Privacy

This notice covers this website. The CalmProbate tool is not available yet; when it is, it will have its own privacy notice covering the information you enter into it, because that is a different and much more sensitive kind of processing.

The short version

  • We set no cookies at all. That is why you have not been shown a cookie banner.
  • We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels on this site.
  • We do not sell or share your information with anyone for marketing.
  • The only personal data we would hold from this site is an email address, and only if you choose to give it to us so we can tell you when the tool is ready.
  • You can delete it yourself, immediately, on our remove my email address page. No reason needed.

Who is responsible

CalmProbate is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can reach us at hello@calmprobate.co.uk.

What we collect

If you ask us to tell you when the tool is ready

We collect your email address. That is all. We do not ask for your name, your phone number, where you are in the probate process, or anything about the person who died or their estate. We collect the minimum that lets us do the one thing you asked for.

Lawful basis: consent. You gave us the address for a specific purpose and you can withdraw it at any time.

What we do with it: we write to you once, when the tool is ready. We do not run a newsletter and we do not send marketing.

How long we keep it: until we have written to you about the launch, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first — and in any case no longer than twelve months. That outer limit is enforced by a scheduled deletion in the database rather than by us remembering, because a retention promise kept by a diary reminder is a retention promise that lapses. If the product does not launch, we delete the list.

Where it is stored: in a database hosted by Supabase, in the EU, acting as our processor under their data processing terms. Nothing about the list leaves that database except the one email we send you.

If you email us

We hold the email and our reply so we can answer you and keep a record of the correspondence. We do not add you to any list because you emailed us.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested, such as the IP address, the page requested and the time. This is ordinary infrastructure logging used to keep the site running and secure, and we do not use it to build any profile of you.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of any kind: no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and nothing stored in your browser between visits. There is nothing here to opt in or out of, which is why you have not been shown a cookie banner.

Measuring how the site is used

We do want to know which guides are read and whether people find what they came for, so we use PostHog to count pages and a short list of actions, such as following a link from a guide. It is configured to be as close to anonymous as measurement gets, and every one of these is a deliberate setting rather than a default:

  • No cookies and no browser storage. Nothing persists between visits, so we cannot recognise you when you come back, and we do not try to.
  • No profiles. No account, no identity and no record of a person is created. We see counts, not people.
  • No session recording. We do not record your screen or what you type. This is switched off, and if it were ever switched on, every form field would be masked.
  • No automatic click capture. Only a short, named list of actions is measured. Capturing everything would risk recording text you had typed.
  • Do Not Track is respected. If your browser asks not to be tracked, nothing is measured at all.
  • Data stays in the EU. We use PostHog's EU region.

What that leaves is which pages were opened, roughly how far down a page people read, which links were followed, the country and device type, and which site you arrived from. None of it identifies you, and none of it is combined with your email address if you give us one.

Who we share data with

Our hosting provider processes requests to this site in order to serve it. If we use an email provider to send the launch announcement, that provider will process your email address on our instructions and under a contract that requires them to protect it. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, and object to our use of it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

For deletion you do not need to ask us at all: use the remove my email address page and it happens immediately, with no reason required. For anything else, email hello@calmprobate.co.uk and we will act on it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to put it right first.

People who have died

UK data protection law applies to living individuals, so it does not cover information about the person who died. We treat that information as confidential regardless. In any case, this website does not collect it: nothing on this site asks you for anything about an estate.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we will update this notice and change the date below. A material change, such as the tool beginning to collect estate information, will come with its own notice rather than being quietly folded into this one.
